Woohoo, I'm AWOL for a few days and the list goes nuts Welcome everyone. My apologies for not greeting everyone individually my offline work is a bit insane at the moment, however you've come at the most exciting time. Lot's happening lots to do.
Much of what is in progress is on the wiki so signing up there is a good idea. Attachments to the list are allowed for subscribers I think, however they do tend to get lost down the list as traffic gets high. As things get closer to launch of OO 4 the list will get pretty busy. Attaching stuff on the wiki means it will hang around and be kept with the appropriate comparable subject matter. Matters in hand: Most critical right now is the Branding RFP which is on the CWiki here: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/Brand+Contest+RFP The goal is to formulate a Request For Proposal that covers the whole OpenOffice Brand: Philosphy, style, Persona, image projection and of course the graphical elements. Consider all the questions that a brand designer should be able to answer and feel free to put them up on the wiki page. This is to encourage a broad participation in the creation of the new brand The are no bad ideas, they are all open to discussion. I would just ask that when you make any edits on the wiki that you make a post to this list so we can discuss it and come to some consensus. Eventually the draft RFP will be presented on the DEV list for final decisions. All decisions are made on the list, the wiki is for creating drafts. The old marketing project materials are here: http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Marketing There are collateral pieces that need updating, brochures, presentations and the like. The text can be updated but the overal branding package will have to nailed down before we finish them. The Old Brand Style Guide is on the wiki here: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/Branding+Style+Guide To give everyone an idea of where we came from Some comments on Brand design here: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/Branding+Design Again welcome everybody introduce yourselves with a little detail and perhaps something about what you like to achieve here. Once branding is done of course and we have a shiny new product with it's new coat we will need to look at the campaign for the launch. It's probably not too early to start brainstorming a few ideas for that as well. A short intro, My name Graham or Yo or Yorick whichever takes you fancy and I've been involved in OOo marketing since about '02, not sure exactly but back about then. I was MarCon (Marketing Contact) for New Zealand for a chunk of that time again not sure when that started, it was a while back. I worked as an OOo trainer and Migration consultant for about 5 years but now I'm back at my first Industry as a Municipal Maintenance Consultant. I'm on a short term contract right now so I may be a bit intermittent until Jan 8 Cheers Graham
