KD Reports 1.2 to be Released, Qt DevDays, Akonadi Sprint

KD Reports 1.2 Brings New Previewer and Major Performance Improvements

KDAB releases a new version of KD Reports, the report-generating components for
use in Qt applications. KD Reports' use cases range from the visualization of
large data sets in printouts to the creation of invoices. KD Reports' visual
identity is defined by templates, so changing the appearance of your reports is
a matter of updating a template file -- it does not require changes to the
source code. KD Reports offers extensive tools to reflect your corporate
identity in the reports and makes it easy to generate visually appealing
printouts and PDFs from your application with just a few lines of code.

KD Reports 1.2 will bring a number of new, interesting features that make it
easier to generate reports. A previewer application smoothens the workflow to
generate reports. The new XML interfaces make it easy to change reports
dynamically during load. Better error handling makes creating reports a more
straight-forward process. Reports can now also be exported to HTML. Merged
cells and configurable columns provide designers with more control over the
layout.
On top of these functional improvements, there are large gains in performance
to be made: generating and previewing reports is now 8 times faster or more
depending on the report. This release also includes fixes for a number of
issues our customers have reported.

KDAB Trainings at Qt DevDays 2009

KDAB has been present at both editions of Qt Developer Days 2009. Qt Developer
Days gathers people who work with and on Qt, from all over the world, in two
conferences held in Munich, Germany and San Francisco, California. These
conferences provide an excellent opportunity to beef up your knowledge about Qt
and find out about the newest developments in the Qt ecosystem. KDAB held a
number of trainings on various topics, such as multi-threading, and
canvas-based UIs using QGraphicsView. KDAB trainers Till Adam and Mirko Boehm
also shared a number of real-world examples, caveats and tricks that will make
many developers' lives a bit easier. If you'd like to benefit from KDAB's
expert knowledge as well, make sure to subscribe to one of our Open Enrollment
trainings. They are held in Denver, London, Berlin and Houston. There are still
some seats left for this year, and more trainings are planned for next year.

New Training Facility in Berlin

In November, KDAB opens their new training facility in the heart of Berlin,
Germany. The venue leaves nothing to wish for, with its state-of-the-art
equipment and being surrounded by one of the most vibrant parts of the city.
Most importantly though, our world-class trainers, who all have accumulated
years worth of real-life experience with Qt will make sure the training boosts
your productivity with Qt and leads to a deeper understanding of the
technologies you work with.

KDAB Hosts Akonadi Sprint

The Berlin KDAB offices hosted a meeting of a number of Open Source developers
to improve the Akonadi PIM storage and caching middleware. KDAB, as part of the
Kolab consortium, is involved with the development of this technology and works
in close collaboration with the KDE team. During the sprint, the 15 developers
discussed and improved semantic search and indexing and the port of KDE's
groupware suite Kontact to the new Akonadi framework.
