Dear marine mammal enthousiast,

Full information on the 2008 Conference and AGM of the European Cetacean Society is from now on available on the website of the ECS http://www.EuropeanCetaceanSociety.eu.

The Conference will be organised in The Netherlands, 10-12 March 2008. Workshops will be set up in the weekend 8-9 March with a possibility to do so also on Thursday 13 March. The main title is

MARINE MAMMALS IN TIME: PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE.

  • Abstracts for any talk, poster presentation, video presentation or workshop MUST be available to reviewers by 30 November 2007. Talks that fit the theme are very welcome:
    • PAST - palaeontology, archaeology, evolution, 16th-17th century whaling or research (strandings),
    • PRESENT - forgotten science: lab and museum basic research, taxonomy, anatomy, 20th centary whaling and
    • FUTURE - climate change, effects on populations and food, monitor species.
      The emphasis is on the less sexy but very basic research.
  • Requests for financial support (students or scientists with low financing) must also be available by 30 November.
    • This includes information needed for passport and visa.
  • Financial support depends on availibility of funds and on number of requests.
  • Forms for review submitting will be available on the ECS site within a few days.
PLEASE send requests with the proper form(s) - they may be returned. All forms necessary are available at the special conference website.
  • Before the end of 2007 the review process will have led to the acceptance of several talks.

  • Early registration for the conference will END by11 January.
  • Late registration will end 8 February.
