STRANDING COORDINATOR



The Marine Mammal Center, an equal opportunity, non-profit employer, is seeking 
a candidate for the position of STRANDING COORDINATOR.  The mission of the 
Center is to rescue and rehabilitate injured and sick marine mammals, and, once 
healthy, to release them back into the ocean.  The Center also conducts 
important research and educates the public in the protection of marine mammals 
and their habitats.
Duties include responding to public questions/concerns about distressed 
animals, volunteer opportunities, and general inquiries; ensures that stranding 
reports from the public or local agencies are handled correctly; receives 
public reports of stranded animals and coordinates appropriate response; 
coordinates assessment and rescue teams from pick-up to transport; participates 
in rescues, transports, and releases as needed; maintains the Stranding 
Department database; enters data, produces and submits National Marine 
Fisheries Service reports and other reports in a timely and accurate manner; 
must have excellent people skills and professionalism.
Candidates must be comfortable in teaching and training volunteers in rescue 
and animal handling.  Computer skills, Excel and Word, are required.  Work 
hours will include evening, night, weekend coverage, including after hours 
on-call.  Travel is required as needed to our Satellite facilities in Moss 
Landing, San Luis Obispo and Anchor Bay.  Must have a valid California Driver's 
license, with a clean driving record, and be able to lift at least 40 pounds.
