Dear Colleagues:

HDR Alaska, Inc. is currently in need of qualified Protected Species Observers 
(PSO). PSOs will conduct boat-based marine protected species observations to 
support seismic operations in the Arctic. Training will be conducted in 
mid-July and the vessel-based survey will be conducted from the end of July 
through the end of September. This is a temporary position not to exceed 4 
months. Key responsibilities include monitoring and recording marine mammal 
presence and behavior activity during the course of the survey and instituting 
appropriate mitigation measures, as necessary. Knowledge of marine mammal 
identification is required. The individual must be able to work with others to 
ensure any required protocol is followed.

A successful applicant will be an individual who has demonstrated skills in 
effective communications, data management, and problem solving. The applicant 
must be flexible, reliable, and comfortable working on small boats.

Requirements
*Bachelors Degree (BS) in Biology or related field.
* Minimum of 1+ years PSO experience.
*Must be physically capable of lifting heavy objects, as well as climbing in an 
out of tight spaces and up and down ladders aboard ships
*Be able to work closely with others and get along well with diverse individuals
*Be able to work independently while following technical instructions
*Have a sound knowledge of the scientific importance of precise, accurate data 
recording and be able to maintain objectivity

Preference will be given to individuals with experience as a PSO on seismic 
surveys and/or working in the Arctic. All travel to locations arranged and 
prepaid, travel days paid, meals/lodging reimbursed if not provided.
