Dear All,

The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG) still have a couple of places left
on a practical training week in Marine Mammal Observation and Passive
Acoustics off the South West coast of Ireland. Training will be on board the
newly refitted RV Celtic Mist and involve discussion and instruction in the
application of the Irish guidelines, as well as their practical application
in the field. The course will start and finish in Castletownbere, County
Cork, and will depart port on the 3 September 2012, with all participants
expected on board on the 2nd, returning to port September 9th.

Early autumn sees a peak in cetacean sightings and frequently unusual
sightings off the south west coast with typically good weather. The RV
Celtic Mist will be using a towed hydrophone array and dipping hydrophones
with associated filter boxes and sound card for high sampling rates. The
course is intended to take in the shelf edge and coastal habitats to
maximise as much as possible the variety and number of sightings and
detections experienced in order primarily to prepare observers for
mitigation with industry. For further information see:

Best Regards
