Also, I can confirm that I'm running the same versions of things that you
are and have not had these particular problems, so your version numbers
should be fine.

Also to make life easier you can start a simulation by using

./start_sim ; ls ; ./stop_sim

It's less work than doing it manually and does the same thing...
