Hi Avadh,

For now I am working around this using vnc. I agree that it may be an X11/SDL
interaction but I haven't figured out yet what it could be. If you could send
me the patch for qemu 0.14 I could at least eliminate that as a variable.
Thanks.

Regards,
James

Subject: Re: [marss86-devel] Screen blanking loop on startup

I have never seen such issue with any of my machines. If this issue does not
come up with 'vnc' then it should be an issue with X11/SDL library interface
issue with QEMU.

P.S. I am working on patch that updates the QEMU code to 0.14 which is provided
by Adnan. If you want to take a look at that patch, let me know.

Hi,

Using a build from a clean source tree (git clone
https://github.com/avadhpatel/marss) as of 4/11/2011 1:00pm PDT I get an
unusual behavior when running on our server. When I enter the marss directory
and execute 'qemu/qemu-system-x86_64' after about 10 seconds the X11 display
starts blanking on and off at a rate of about 5 sec / 5 sec. Running a
non-marss version of qemu-system-x86_64 on the same system does not exhibit the
blanking loop. The version of qemu in marss is reported as 0.12.3 while the
version installed system wide is 0.14.0.

I tried to debug it a bit. If I use a vnc connection to view a booting marss
session (with -vnc :10) there is no blanking loop. If I use the -curses switch
(no VGA) I do not see the blanking loop either. Any suggestions?

Config:
Linux kernel version: 2.6.38 amd64 (Debian sid)
ASUS server with 2x 8 core Xeon processors 24GB DRAM
ASPEED AST2050 VGA

James
