Okey, now I've hit the wall.
My server (Fedora Core 4) didn't like biomart in the beginning but after finally install a new server (and following user-doc by the letter) with
mod_perl statically linked it worked! I used URLpointer as a reg. file.
I could even do the Uniprot queries...

Until I restarted the server.... then it stopped. The following error
seems to be consistently showing up every time i run a script.

syntax error at line 1, column 0, byte 0 at
/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6/i386-linux-thread-multi/XML/Parser.pm
line 187

And the funny part is that i have tried redownloading biomart from CVS;
reinstalling the server/mod_perl; using our apache 2.0 installation
(which refused to serve webpages before) and i now always get this
message when i run for example biomart-perl/bin/configure.pl

I doubt anything in my perl distribution got touched but I'm not a
learned sysadmin or informatician so I don't really know why installing
broke it. But ehm... I'd like to know if I've really f** it now :-)
Everything else seems to run fine on the system (i don't know if i use
expat though anywhere else).

any words of wisdom welcome

ps. the installation on my desktop seems to have no problems (anymore),
so it must have been a system specific or something i did!...

no, actually it must have been something we did ;-)

It seems that our webservice (after very recent code update)
prefixes "Keep-Alive: timeout=15, max=100" to our xml, that's why you
are getting syntax error, please bare with us
while we are fixing it and meanwhile please use the DBPointer
or martDBRegistry instead to test your install (requires open outgoing connection
on port 3306)
