Except that Beauvoir actually said (I'm assuming this is the quote, there may be more then one place she said something similar):
"TO will oneself free is also to will others free" (73).
Which is a little more radical then simply wanting to be free, it is the action of freeing oneself and others along the way.

and about the 'freedom' of the oppressor:
"...a democracy which defends itself only by acts of oppression equivalent to those of authoritarian regimes is precisely denying all these values; whatever the virtues of a civilization may be...." (125).

"...if the oppressor were aware of the demands of his own freedom, he himself should have to denounce oppression. But he is dishonest..."(96).

"At once the oppressor raises an objection: under the pretext of freedom, he says, there you go oppressing me in turn; you deprive me of /my/ freedom... We have to respect freedom only when it is intended for freedom..A freedom which is interested only in denying freedom must be denied" (90-1).

Of all people to accuse of having a wishy-washy view of freedom, Beauvoir is not it. In fact, Beauvoir probably had one of the most nuanced definitions that you could find sociologically, philosophically or politically.

What a wonderful sounding quote, although palpably untrue: as a rule,
oppressors want to be free, even while they unite to deny such freedom to
their victims.
