Well, Schwartz is nothing if not second-rate. During the SF newspaper
strike he acted as a redbaiter and a snitch in attacking those in
Workers World Party and other socialist groups that were supporting
the strike and he continues to invoke the name of Trotsky and even
Cannon in support of his anti-communist views going so far to link
them with crocodile tears for a White Russian emigre general allegedly
killed in Paris in 1925 by soviet agents. say what? I wrote a letter
to the Anderson Valley Advertiser a few years ago taking issue with
Schwartz who used to be published therein, pointing out that his views
had nothing to do with those of Trotsky or Cannon, the latter of whom,
at the height of the witchhunt in the early 50s, opposed the Cold War
and the persecution of the CP and denounced "state department
socialists" like Schwartz as scabs and traitors. ("Treason of the
Intellectuals")
