This article states:: "the total number of rebels and civilians killed during the conflict of 2011 is 4,700, with 2,100 additional people missing." Libya had a population of 6,422,772 according to a 2011, approximately 1/200th of India, his native country. The same figures for a civil war in his country would amount to 800,000 dead and 400,000 missing--all in the span of 9 months. So what if a no-fly zone had not been imposed? What would those figures look like? I can easily imagine them being doubled. The equivalent of 1,600,000 dead and 800,000 missing.

I wonder why Vijay, who is a very principled and informed anti-imperialist public intellectual out of the academy operating in the tradition of Edward Said, would write an article trying to make the point that there was no "genocide" when the statistics that he cites in the spirit of "debunking" Western propaganda is ghastly in its own right.
