Marv: But Rohani is simply (and quite properly) reiterating Iran's right to a nuclear program - no mention of "weaponization" - and that there'll be no unilateral suspension of enrichment. I'm not quite sure what you mean when you wrote "no mention of 'weaponization'". Although Iran (in my view) has a RIGHT to produce nuclear weapons if they feel they are necessary for their defense, not only has no Iranian leader ever suggested they were planning to do so, but, to the contrary, they have said positively they are NOT planning to do so. Khamenei has declared nuclear weapons "un-Islamic" and issued a fatwa against them. Marv: "The assumption that the Obama administration would rather contain Iran than be drawn into a war with it seems correct to me." The U.S. is ALREADY at war against Iran, both via supporting covert terrorist actions and by actively engaging in economic warfare politely called "sanctions," which are war without bullets, but war whose intent (accomplished to a fair extent) is to inflict pain and suffering on the Iranian people. I agree that the U.S. would prefer to avoid a shooting war. However, whether terrorism, economic war, or shooting war, we should be clear that the U.S. goal is NOT "containing Iran," but "regime change."
