Fortunately, not quite. Links publishes my articles on Syria; it publishes Tony IItis' articles on Syria. That's debate, which is the purpose of Links. That said, while I would have used less colourful language, I basically agree with you regarding much of the content of this article, though there are a couple of good points.
Debate? I don't see much of a debate going on. A debate is, for example, what took place in the Russian Social Democracy between Lenin and Martov. When Links publishes 3 articles by the Kagarlitskyites on Ukraine to 1 reflecting the analysis of the Mandelistas, you have to assume that it is for Kagarlitsky, at least Kagarlitsky lite.
I see that Tony Ilitis writes about Syria for Greenleft Weekly, not Michael Karadjis. That really depresses me since Tony really writes a lot of real bullshit. I strongly suspect that Terry Townsend and Tony Ilitis are the driving forces behind this John Rees type crapola but what do I know? Of course, you can have crappy ideas about international politics while still being good on Australian questions. What bothers me, however, is the tendency toward pat "anti-imperialist" formulas from the Ilitis-Townsend wing of the group. That doesn't bode well for developing a revolutionary program for Australia.
