Let me repeat. I don't think that socialism can be built in a single country. It will be a worldwide system centered in countries with advanced technology, not in underdeveloped countries like Venezuela. Lenin and Trotsky saw the USSR as a beachhead that would play a major role in assisting revolutions in exactly those kinds of countries, even if the Comintern fucked up royally in Germany.
It doesn't matter if Venezuela abolished capitalism in one fell swoop as Cuba did or if it does it inch by inch. The minute it culminated in an expropriation of the expropriators to the point that quantity turned into quality, it would be torn from limb to limb. You think that the CIA has been trying to overthrow the Chavistas? Wait until you see what would happen if the anti-government bourgeoisie lost its property as happened to a large extent in Nicaragua as a result of so many being in bed with Somoza. You would see contras based in Colombia wreaking havoc in Venezuela, burning crops and blowing up oil wells. The dogs of war would be unleashed in a way that Latin America has not seen in a generation.
