I've been reading this myself and have thoroughly enjoyed it so far. One
thing I found particularly interesting was Cobb's discussion of how Bacon's
Rebellion led to the creation of slave codes in Virginia. I grew up in
Virginia and have visited Bacon's Castle but never heard that part of the
story.

As a child I always wondered why Bacon's Rebellion was covered in our
school curriculum. A failed rebellion that seemed to have no lasting
impact, at least according to our history books, wasn't very interesting.
Now I know--Bacon crossed the color line and the fear his rebellion incited
led to the creation of a legal system that was explicitly weighed against
slaves and blacks. That's important stuff.
