Articles exposing the folly of supporting Bernie Sanders often mention Eugene Debs, Sanders' purported hero. They typically include a quote from Debs denouncing support for either capitalist party, and often explain that Sanders' conception of socialism is at best akin to the Scandinavian capitalist welfare-state model - and is in any case a fraud given his fealty to the existing US socioeconomic system. I think it would be helpful to go further down this comparative road, to summarize Debs's history in practice with the bosses' parties, with their exploitation and repression - including his own given an unwillingness to take the safe and comfortable opportunist road of Sanders.
