This is a masterful account, based on original archival research and oral history done in Cuba, of the virtually unknown role of the Cuban working class in securing the victory of the rebels led by Fidel Castro that marked the beginning of the Cuban Revolution. The author, before he earned a PhD and became a university lecturer, was for 20 years a London bus driver. He has been an active socialist and trade unionist his entire adult life.
