While Barbara and Phil were leading figures in an opposition group in the
US SWP, and later in the Class Struggle League, this interview covers a
wide area of ground.

They talk about what it was like growing up in the 1950s and into the early
1960s - the socio-cultural and political changes from the civil rights to
rock music and the Beats - how they came to get involved in politics in the
early 60s, how/why they joined the SWP and then the process of their
disillusionment with it,their experiences of being an oppositional
minority, problems of democracy and democratic centralism (and the lack of
them), how this panned out, their lives since they abandoned active
political work, their politics today (their principles remain unchanged)
and their views of US politics at present.

I conducted the interview over a couple of months and very much enjoyed
talking to them. They are very fine people.
