Well, I very much apologize to Tariq Ali. I just re-read and found at

What a sad attempt. At a time like no other when we need to seize every
opportunity, especially in the msm for lucid explanation of the reasons
for the failure of the Soviet project, the costs to humanity and the
alternative vision now prevalent on the left of a truly worker-run,
democratic socialism, we get this standard, "objective", bourgeois
shoulder-shrug from its author.
