The "single payer" health care campaign should be supported because it moderately opens up the question of the "free" market, but it nowhere near resolves the problem. Single payer would accelerate the hospital merger and acquisition frenzy, leading to even more hospital closures. What the workers movement should fight for is socialized medicine, as part of an overall struggle to transform society.
