If you look at the totality Macron's tax changes, while they hugely and disproportionately give money to the very rich, the net effect is also to make middle income earners better off, while leaving the poor marginally worse off. On the face of it, this seems to be an argument for not ascribing the Yellow Vest protests, and their broad popularity, to Macron's fiscal policy. But, of course, it's never that simple.
