I do not get how this petition would be effective to either end discrimination,
or end the military?

If David Thorstad believes (and it appears few others) that only the U. S.
bourgeoisie will benefit by having open Gays and Lesbians in the United States
military - then why would

such a petition work - since the bourgeoisie has more power, than the few
petition signers -unless David and the very few others, imply that the
progressive politicians, will be influenced by such a petition, to actually
continue this military discrimination?

Everyone knows that many Gays and Lesbians currently are in the U. S. military
- and always have been - as in all militaries of the world. The current Don't
Ask Don't Tell is to deny rights and to target a specific group and unless
David Thorstad is going to create another petition to request that all poor
working people be denied service in the military - it would not make any sense
for this petition, to select only one group to deny rights to?

It puts David in with the religious fundamentalists (and a very few Gay
progressives - and it is very few, since persons like myself will not sign on
to this petition - and perhaps some good intentioned Gay pacifists would, but
very few of them either) - who seem to be the only people who want to continue
this bad discriminatory policy.

Perhaps we should get a petition to reinstate Jim Crow in the U. S. military -
would that also make David happy to spend his time on circulating such. I
would not sign such a petition either, or would any likely on this list.

The attitudes are changing on Gays among many in the U. S., due to the effects
of the Gay and Lesbian Rigths Movement - and we shall see other barriers come
down in areas we may not all have wanted as our choice - such as in other
government repressive jobs .But it is part of what happens, when a movement
becomes effective to bring about change and instead of trying to stop this -
work to have the focus be more on ending emplyoment discrimination for
everyone, that would be more beneficial. The U. S. president and congress have
not done that yet either.

and not have one instead, on the same side as the bigoted religious
fundamentalists oppressors!
