There seems to be a growing disconnect between political elites and the general public in both Europe and North America over Israel. In Europe for instance, public opinion has shifted decisively against Israel, but political elites there seem, if anything, to have lined up solidly into Israel's corner in recent years. In years gone by, it was not uncommon for European political leaders, especially in France and Great Britain, to be publicly critical of Israel. But, now a days, the political establishments in both countries are solidly behind Israel.
