What has taken religion out has been the growth of capitalist modernity. The irony is that the Churches faced with the possibility of a communist world threw their lot in with the capitalists and the results are there for all to see. I am especially delighted to see the rise of atheism and secularism in places like Poland, when that old counter revolutionary Carol voytijila tried so hard to bring Poland into the Western fold.
