Brief summary. After a long period of problems over salaries and conditions, and following the recent decision to partially privatise Spanish airports, last night Spanish air traffic controllers walked out on unofficial strike, paralysing Spanish air space (today is the start of a long bank holiday weekend). Last night the government put the airports under military control, and this morning declared an ‘Estado de Alarma’, which, amongst other things, puts the air traffic controllers under military discipline, opening up the possibility, in the event of failure to turn up for work without good cause (for example, on medical grounds) of sanction under the military penal code, which could mean prison sentences of up to six years. ________________________________________________ Send list submissions to: Marxism@lists.econ.utah.edu Set your options at: http://lists.econ.utah.edu/mailman/options/marxism/archive%40mail-archive.com
