The Sosyalistang Kilusang Manggagawa ( SKM) will
launch a series of activities aimed to expose a
rotten kind of politics, known as traditional politics
dominated by traditional politicians or "trapos".
These "trapos" which have made politics their
personal business by establishing dynasties,
transferring their loyalty from one administration to
another as turncoats and continuously holding on to
power to preserve their economic and political
interest. They have been rejected by the masses in
the past elections and yet they have not learned their
lesson. A lot of them are back and holding key
positions in the Arroyo cabinet and agencies while
others are seeking elective post once again this May.
For
SKM, these trapos must be
placed to where they belong " the dust bin of
history", together with the kind of politics they
adhere to. The politics of patronage and vested
interest aim at keeping their political and economic
power. " LUMANG TRAPO, TALUNANG TRAPO , PATALSIKIN SA
GOBYERNONG ARROYO" will serve as the initial call of
the campaign. This is SKM challenge to the ARROYO
government to rid her administration of " recycled"
politicians known as " trapos " and prove her
sincerity of bringing good governance and new politics
as she stated in her inaugural speech.
As part of this campaign, SKM will hold a Mobilization
on February 21, 2001 Wednesday on Mendiola at 2 PM.
This will serve as the kick - off of SKM's plan for
the whole election season in line with its call for
political/ electoral reforms as stated in our program.
