Significant--and violent--"rallies" including, if not featuring, Proud Boys happened in DC in November and December. It's true that these events, over the four Trump years--have fizzled more often than not, but since the election they have been on the increase. Trump has put his remaining and perhaps still considerable, weight behind the "Stop the Steal" BS scheduled for Tuesday through Thursday this week--and Michael Flynn continues to run for fuehrer behind the scenes, while his people are issuing death threats in Trump's name.
Some people, like the French invaders in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, seem to believe that the best weapon for self-defense is a good taunt. Many of these peraps like to say "fascist" because they feel the word itself has a steel tip and wings and will slay whatever it's aimed at. IMO, furthermore, the authoritarian anarchist streak in Trump, with its assertion of gang power and its contempt for the process of governance, could be much worse than actual fascism. This could even include a very destructive dictatorship with death squads and still not really be fascist--Trump himself BTW not required. It's certain that the addictive melodrama of The Fascist Rise to Power will not be literally re-enacted except as farce. But in the long run it doesn't matter what you call the bad thing as long as everyone is clear what we're talking about objectively when it happens.
