The Clown Car Insurrection: Part 2
For decades the reformist left has used fear of the extreme right as an excuse
to vote for the Democratic Party. Even a few ostensible revolutionaries on this
list succumbed to this fear and campaigned for Joseph Biden in the recent
election.
It seems to them, and to the liberal media, that their fears have come true. An
army of frightening MAGA warriors dressed in camouflage or like Vikings or in
hiking shorts invaded the capitol of the United States at the behest of Donald
Trump to stage an insurrection.
Oh me, oh my!
It’s true that what the MAGA worms did was illegal, was a threat to the
exercise of the democratic right to vote, was sedition, and that it resulted in
five deaths. It’s also true that it was a laughable failure as an insurrection.
It scared the Democrats and a lot of Republicans so much that Trump will be
impeached again, and this time he may even be convicted. He might even be
prosecuted after that and go to jail. That would be great.
Probably a bunch of MAGA worms will go to jail. Hopefully for a long time.
It would also be great if they would throw Ted Cruz, Josh Howler and the rest
of the MAGA scum in the Senate and House out on the street, and into the jails
with the rest. This is wishful thinking, but it would be nice.
BUT, how big, strong and fearsome is the MAGA movement anyway?
I think it is not even as numerous and strong as the wicked witches flying
monkeys.
I think it is more like the smoke and mirrors manipulated from behind the
curtain by the Great and Powerful Wizard of OZ, only this time the guy pulling
the levers has hidden either in the White House or Mar-a-Lago. He has amplified
his fearsome shadows through Twitter et al. and then through Fox, and then on
through MSNBC and CNN. By the time they have gotten done commenting and
punditing, the danger of the extreme right has grown in size from a few
thousand fat old white dudes into an army.
Now we have a good laboratory experiment to test how big and fearsome these
maggots really are: the online right has been buzzing about a new attack on the
Capitol on January 17th, and more – but vaguer – actions on inauguration day on
the 20th.
Let’s see what happens. Will they mobilize 50,000? Or maybe 50?
Will they face down thousands of members of the National Guard?
Or will they hide a couple of pipe bombs in the bushes in Arlington, VA?
We only have to wait a week or so to see.

This argument has a best-before date. If the argument is that we don’t have to
support the Democrats because the far right is not really all that strong, what
will our argument be if we do perceive them as a substantial threat?
