IS FREE SPEECH the friend of equality and justice? Or is it the foe? Is
free speech a tool wielded by conservatives and white nationalists to
provide aid and comfort to the spread of their racist ideologies and
hateful messages? Or is free speech a valuable weapon used throughout
history by oppressed groups to speak truth to power and bring about
radical change to reverse centuries of racism and discrimination? Have
accusations against progressives for promoting a “cancel culture” given
conservatives a perfect opportunity to seize the mantle as the valiant
defenders of free speech?
