It is true that Stalin led the Soviet Union during World War II --- but one could make the case that by virtually killing off many of his top military officials, he left the Soviet Union much too unprepared for the German invasion in June of 1941 --- I mean the Nazis almost took Moscow and it was the long supply line and the tenacity of the SOviet defenders in Stalingrad that broke the back of the German invading force --- One could make the case that if the entire military and political leadership of the Bolshevik Party (that remember, fought off 11 intervening armies in 1919-21) had not been decapitated by Stalin, they would have been in a better position to resist Hitler's invasion -- they might not have lost 20 million people in WW II ...
