" Strangely, the air war is absent from the film in ways that might have
been included. I kept expecting a patrol to pass through an area that had
been hit by 2,000 pound bombs from a B-52 raid."

The bombing campaigns of the Vietnam War were the longest and heaviest
aerial bombardment in history. The United States Air Force, the U. S. Navy,
and U. S. Marine Corps aviation dropped 7,662,000 tons of explosives. By
comparison, U. S. forces dropped a total of 2,150,000 tons of bombs in all
theaters of World War II.

The American air campaign during the Vietnam War was the largest in
military history... Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force Curtis
LeMay stated that "we're going to bomb them back into the Stone Age".
