While this writer discounts freedom to choose, it is precisely this matter that is the essence of the socialist revolution underway.
He refers to the assignment of ‘party names’ which are meant to represent the homogenous composition of the Russian Christian Orthodox variety. This is the official Marxist position in favour of the assimilation of national minorities or oppressed minorities. And this is of course reactionary. The methodology used by the writer is a default to the projected dictatorship of the proletariat as represented by the democratic-centralism of the party, which deems itself to be a mini-State in waiting to take power during a social revolution. No mention of Soviets, which became merely a vehicle for that bureaucracy. All that is obsolete since it proved incapable of maintaining the revolutionary process after 76 years only – not to speak of its theoretical bankruptcy as exposed by Bronstein. Now, to get back to the name calling here. The actual person in question was Bronstein and Trotsky is merely a political personage. To humanise him is not fault. When the fascists use his Jewish identity and those of so many other Jewish revolutionaries to defame the revolution why should we do the same and seek to hide the Jewish identities when we should rather be taking pride in the contribution made by the Jewish intelligentsia to the world revolutionary process in the Occidental sphere. Likewise, in the Palestinian solidarity movements we experience the denunciation of a ‘Jewish State’ as if our identity was legitimately stolen for the purposed of a bourgeois Nation-State with a Jewish star used a shield against human rights Law. No, we refuse such subterfuge and assert our Jewish identity against the Zionist State. The appeal made to the Party discipline is obsolete since the Party is gone, the III International is gone and the IVth still grapples with international democratic centralism in vain. All in all , the writer here who refers to the same side is mistaken, we are not of the same side. We are socialist Jewish thinkers who are banding together in the Jewish Bund as it flows from the Warsaw Jewish Bund, the new generations in their Chapters, the existing Bund Chapters scattered in the Jewish Workers’ Circle together with the United Inter-National Communalist Convergence.
