I urge people to read this article from Foreign Affairs. You have to register on foreign Affairs, but don't have to pay. A couple of things stand out: One is that some estimates of both the number of cases and the number of deaths are 30 times higher than the official figure. However, the count of the number of deaths in the Gujarat's Jamnar district was actually 100 times the official count! Second, many people who have been vaccinated are now appearing in hospitals. It seems likely that the vaccines may not be effective - or only partially effective - for the new variant B1617. If that is the case, then we can expect wave after wave around the world. You couldn't have a better example of how events in one part of the world affect people everywhere. We are thinking we are over the worst of it here in the US. ARE WE?
