I see this as something of a breakthrough.  In the past there were voices among 
First Nations people in support of Palestinians.  But they were few and not 
particularly representative, in my understanding.
The supporters of Israel worked hard to invite First Nations leaders to Israel 
and win them to Israel’s side.
For example, after anti-semitic remarks by David Ahenekew in 2002, some First 
Nations leaders felt they needed to make peace with the Jewish community by 
accepting a trip to Israel and making pro-Israel statements.
