I've been thinking a lot recently about the fact that American activism being joined at the hip with academia means that a lot of minorities (ie. everyone except for straight, white men) now believe that pursuing their own personal social/professional/economic advancement within the existing power structures of society somehow equals striking a radical blow against those same power structures.
This is the logical meaning of social justice in an atomized, liberal-capitalist society. There is no possibility of structural change, so social justice is simply when good things happen to the right demographics. People sincerely believe that their personal advancement is a moral good in itself. https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2021/jun/10/why-black-solo-female-travel-is-a-radical-act -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
