Concerning my differences with Howie and how he (and others) debate the Putinized left: How can denigrate the significance of people like Kimberley having participated in that AGMR conference along with fascists. He can dismiss raising that as an "ad hominem" attack, but he is mistaken. I tried to watch that debate from the point of view of somebody who just wasn't very informed and whose mind wasn't made up. Convincing somebody like that would be the only reason for even debating a Putinist like Kimberley. The unconvinced would have been lost in a maze of facts and analyses. Without spending hours and hours of research, such a person would have come away just as confused as before. The fact is that people always consider *who* a speaker is, what is their background, when they consider the speaker's arguments. We might like or dislike that fact, but that's how people's minds work. They think holistically (some might call it "dialectically"!). That is why it's important to show the connections. I have explained this to Howie before, but he dismisses this. He is mistaken.
My suspicion, by the way, is that if he were debating somebody who didn't pretend they were on the left, Howie would not hesitate to point out their real background.
