Hi Dr abrahim,

How has your long weekend been? I hope you've had a chance to relax and enjoy
some sunshine.

I spent the first part of my holiday Monday
<https://www.jspacecanada.ca/r?u=RUMz-Ppmorwp4pd2POvrySuWxBIsQIUHZ4byH4GMIsALmH8A2m-pnd2coOKlDkst&e=4f1f22b0aed77879e5888b98f7c91c64&utm_source=jspace&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=fundraisingemail_peacerally&n=2>
watching the live stream of today's Israeli peace rally, "It's Time."

In an auditorium that holds 10,000 people,
<https://www.jspacecanada.ca/r?u=TWZiWsC-VYuTkMQc0jVnTl9p25-S40LkI5s-ThA64rI8WBQGOcCkz2IKp5Dx2SbByTGR8_vWJmcalGPJdwAMvw&e=4f1f22b0aed77879e5888b98f7c91c64&utm_source=jspace&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=fundraisingemail_peacerally&n=3>
filled to the brim, tens of thousands of Israelis, Palestinians, and allies
gathered to say it's time.

To stop the war. To secure a ceasefire and hostage release deal. To end the
occupation. To return to peace negotiations.

I loved when Yuval Noah Harari said "true, we have tried to make peace in the
past, and we weren't that good at it. So what? We also aren't that great at
making war, and yet it hasn't prevented us from doing another one, and another
one."

The event ended with the song "A Song for Peace" written by Yaakov “Yankele”
Rotblit.

You may be like me - this song may stir up heavy and complex feelings. I
remember watching Yitzhak Rabin z"l sing it almost 30 years ago at a peace
rally in support of the Oslo Accords. At a time when peace seemed so close,
when a political leader had rallied us all to support a peace agreement, and
when it felt like it was finally going to happen.

It was only a short time after getting off the stage that Rabin was
assassinated by a Jewish right-wing extremist.

In many ways, I was transported back to that horrible day, and with it, I was
reminded of the trauma that so many Israelis carry with them to this day.

"don't get too hopeful." I told myself, remembering the last time this song was
sung and was meant to signify a new, better future.

But then I realized that this trauma doesn't have to define me. It doesn't have
to define any of us, we don't have to live in the most horrible moments of our
past, we can work together to create a more hopeful future.

And indeed, on that stage today was a different future than the future that
stood on the stage all those years ago.

Today, the song was sung not by a small circle of political elites, but by
everyday civilians. Jews, Arabs, Mizrahi, Ashkenazi, Ethiopian. In Hebrew and
in Arabic, they did more than just sing for peace.

They told everyone in that auditorium, and everyone watching from home, that
they are the future.

This is exactly what we do at JSpaceCanada as well.

At a time when our establishment leaders can't speak of a two-state solution

unless it's followed with a "but", when there is no talk of peace, or an end
to this war, we are bravely leading.

Whether it's working with our political leaders to

encourage further sanctions on settlers and entities in the occupied West Bank
who endanger Palestinian civilians and harm the viability of a two-state
solution, or successfully getting them to

publicly support Israeli-Palestinian peacebuilding on the world's largest
stages, we are the ones pushing for peace.
