Another way to go at the problem might be to figure out: Do the capitalists who want to dismantle so much of bourgeois democracy have a sectional interest for it, expecting more profits? Or do they see a threat that requires throwing away one of the most important supports of the dictatorship of capital, namely, the whole parliamentary and constitutional game?
I find it easier to spot the symptoms than diagnose the causes. The Supreme Court majority gave us deregulation havoc and a President with authoritarian powers that will surely appeal to the wealthier echelons of Trump's base. I take that as a qualitative change of posture, like the Powell memo of the early 70's signaled the end of the the post WWII business-labor alliance and the roots of Reagan neoliberalism (https://scholarlycommons.law.wlu.edu/powellmemo/1/). Why this is happening is a topic for further study, hopefully using a different Subject line. Mark -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
