I find it easier to spot the symptoms than diagnose the causes.  The
Supreme Court majority gave us deregulation havoc and a President with
authoritarian powers that will surely appeal to the wealthier echelons
of Trump's base. I take that as a qualitative change of posture, like
the Powell memo of the early 70's signaled the end of the the post WWII
business-labor alliance and the roots of Reagan neoliberalism
(https://scholarlycommons.law.wlu.edu/powellmemo/1/).

Why this is happening is a topic for further study, hopefully using a
different Subject line.
