Ed, I read the related part in "Critique of Political Economy" in the MIA
version again and again, and I think Suzanne de Brunhoff simply delivers there
what she accurately inferred from Marx text, but there is nothing directly
indicating her interference. So, probably, you wouldn't get anywhere even if
you had that particular edition. Marx most likely didn't see any benefit from
repeating the difference between the metallic forms of money and banknote
money, which is, in Marx's words, more advanced version of money: "In countries
which have purely metallic currency or are at an early stage of development of
production, hoards are extremely fragmented and scattered throughout the
country, whereas in advanced bourgeois countries they are concentrated in the
reservoirs of banks." In fact, hoarding is not only possible but more effective
when it's conducted via banknote rather than metallic, gold-money. But all in
all, Marx's text and his ideas in that part are incredibly complicated and awe
inspiring. I mean, it's sometimes so easy to detect when someone attempts to
add more depth to their writing with various schemes that I put away that kind
of nonsense within minutes. But, here, the complexity of the question and the
endeavor of the author to deal with it is undeniable.
