The observations in this review about China are similar to mine, but I'd like to add a few points. "You have nothing to lose but your chains" is an outdated proposition that belongs to a particular period in the industrial evolution, especially regarding the current material and legal conditions affecting the working classes in imperialist nations or nations situated advantageously within the periphery of the spoils from the surplus value extraction/distribution like Poland, South Korea, New Zealand, etc. This advantageous position certainly comes with the price of a complete institutional and political submission to the imperialist core, or, in the case of Poland, is built on the strong foundation of investments in infrastructure and education during the post-war communist era, which makes the submission smoother and more profitable in the first place. Nonetheless, I think the Chinese working class labors in conditions far from being described as "nothing but chains" considering the 'purchasing power parity' ( https://tinyurl.com/yev399bs ) and as China being the second largest (or the first according to some metrics) capitalist economy that's fully integrated to imperialism (global capitalist structure), trading surplus value in the world market with passionate fervor and thus gradually improving its ranking among the imperialist pecking order in the process. That said, what I wrote so far is not applicable to Congolese workers toiling for a pittance in the socialist cobalt mines owned by the Chinese state at least with the ratio of 53% to 58%, which is generally considered a minimum public share to be classified as socialist. But, how those socialist enterprises still create scenes reminiscent of Dante's Inferno is anybody's guess. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
