The UN’s Special Rapporteur on Palestine, on Monday, said that Israel is targeting Gaza and the West Bank as part of an elimination and expansion strategy, Anadolu Agency reports. “Apartheid Israel is targeting Gaza and the West Bank simultaneously, as part of an overall process of elimination, replacement and territorial expansion,” Francesca Albanese said in a statement. . . . There has been a notable increase in the frequency of aerial and ground attacks on the governorates of Jenin, Nablus, Tulkarem and Tubas, she said, with a particular focus on refugee camps, over the past few months. Albanese underlined that, since last October, 652 Palestinians have been killed outside of Gaza, including 151 children. Besides, she said, thousands have been injured, over 3,300 have been displaced and more than 12,000 have been arbitrarily detained. “The long-standing impunity granted to Israel is enabling the de-Palestinisation of the Occupied Territory, leaving Palestinians at the mercy of the forces pursuing their elimination as a national group,” she warned. The Special Rapporteur called on the international community to do everything it can to immediately end “the risk of genocide against the Palestinian people under Israel’s occupation, ensure accountability and ultimately end Israel’s colonisation of Palestinian Territory.” # # # *Israel arrested a Palestinian. Two hours later soldiers returned with his body* *Ayman Abed's family and medics say there are clear signs he had been tortured and badly beaten in Israeli custody* by Lubna Masarwa, Middle East Eye, Sept. 2 https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/israel-arrested-palestinian-two-hours-later-soldiers-returned-his-body Israeli forces detained a 58-year-old Palestinian man on Monday morning, returning him to his family two hours later dead and covered in marks that indicated he had been tortured and badly beaten in custody. Soldiers raided the house of Ayman Abed in the northern occupied West Bank village of Kafr Dan at around 3.30am, his family told Middle East Eye. According to Isra Abed, Abed’s daughter, Israeli soldiers took him into custody at 6am, returning shortly after with his dead body. . . . The Palestinian Red Crescent Society also said Abed’s body displayed signs of torture, and that he had been transferred to a hospital in Jenin, 8km from Kafr Dan. “My father didn’t suffer from any health issues. He never complained about any health problems,” Isra said. “He has never been detained before or been summoned for interrogation.” Mohammed Atiq, a journalist from Jenin, told MEE that he saw the body after the Israelis returned it around 8am. “He had many signs of torture on his face and it’s clear that they brutally beat him. You can see the signs on his chest and other areas,” he said. . . . Since the 7 October Hamas-led attack on Israel and subsequent war on Gaza, Israeli forces have detained around 1,400 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Authority. Thousands more Palestinians in Gaza have been detained in the same period and have faced appalling conditions. Middle East Eye and other media have reported on various cases of torture, ill-treatment and sexual abuse in Israeli detention facilities. B’Tselem, Israel’s largest human rights group, has called the Israeli prison system a “network of torture camps”. In a report published last month, B’Tselem said it had collected testimonies that “clearly indicated a systematic, institutional policy focused on the continual abuse and torture of all Palestinian prisoners held by Israel”. . . . *Jenin under complete Israeli siege for fifth consecutive day* The Cradle, News Desk, September 1 https://thecradle.co/articles/jenin-under-complete-israeli-siege-for-fifth-consecutive-day The Israeli military is deploying armored vehicles, bulldozers, and snipers supported by drones and aircraft to destroy infrastructure and cut off electricity and water supplies on the fifth day of its assault on the northern West Bank Palestinian city of Jenin, Al-Jazeera reported on 1 September. . . . The Jenin Municipality announced that Israeli forces have bulldozed more than 70 percent of the streets in Jenin City. Water has been cut off from the entire Jenin Camp and 80 percent of the city. Twenty kilometers of water, sewage, telecommunications, and electricity networks have been bulldozed. As part of the invasion, Israeli forces have cut off access to local hospitals. "The Israelis are besieging the hospitals and cutting off the city from the refugee camp, which has become a military zone with no access," Jenin Governor Kamal Abu al-Rub told AFP. "Neither the civil defense, nor the ambulances, nor the journalists can go and see what is happening there." . . . -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
