The Popular Democratic Front, which includes revolutionary left groups through to moderate centre-left opposition parties, has been campaigning for the release of the full results of Venezuela's presidential election. It has sought to pursue this campaign via the legal avenues available to it such as through the courts. (see interview about their campaign https://links.org.au/maria-alejandra-diaz-popular-democratic-front-institutional-avenues-resolving-venezuelas-political For this a number of their most high profile spokespeople have been detained (including the Communist Party of Venezuela backed presidential candidate) or are being persecuted by security forces, just days out from Maduro's inauguration. Below is a statement by the FDP denouncing these actions. **We demand freedom for and an end to the harassment of Popular Democratic Front (FDP) members.** At 12:30 a.m. on 08.01.25, we were informed that yesterday, 07.01.25, Enrique Marquez was arbitrarily detained and Juan Barreto and Maria Alejandra Diaz were harassed by security forces, placing police presence outside their homes. They are 3 founding members of the Popular Democratic Front. The Popular Democratic Front proposes political, peaceful and constitutional solutions to the legitimacy crisis generated by the lack of transparency and auditability of the electoral results indicated by the CNE and validated by the TSJ. The government is only ratifying its authoritarian drift with these harassments and arbitrary arrests, which are added to seven others that occurred on the same day. We demand the immediate release of Enrique and the other detainees and an end to the harassment of María Alejandra and Juan.
