As ineffective and hopelessly foolish as Hamas's strategy was, the history of the Jewish settler/apartheid state has never needed justification for ethnic cleansing, land theft, and occasional massacres of civilians. It's built into the very notion of creating a Jewish State in a country that, at Zionism's founding, had a Jewish population of 6%. A Jewish State of necessity would offer privileges and advantages to Jews, while the overwhelming majority would be second class citizens in their own country. The only road was through the ethnic cleansing of Palestine (Herzl - "We shall spirit the native population out while denying those that remain employment"). The Naqba of 1948 was the inevitable result, as is Naqba 2.0 - today's Gaza tragedy.
