*Ukraine War: Requiem for Pokrovsk*

Russian invading forces are marching further into Ukrainian land,
crushing villages and towns. Ukrainian defenders are forced to abandon
dugout after dugout, retreat quarter by quarter, fight for every
building in an attempt to slow down the occupiers’ advance. The Russian
army is gradually approaching the town of Pokrovsk, one of the last
fortresses in Donetsk Oblast. This is not the first, nor will it be the
last city Ukrainians have to leave to the Russian invaders. Meanwhile,
feelings of indignation are boiling up among the soldiers, anger and
discontent are growing in the Ukrainian public, protests against the
leadership are gaining momentum, and a real struggle is unfolding within
the army itself. What do these symptoms indicate? Is there a way out of
this crisis? What perspectives can Marxists offer?
