I like when third parties estimate crowd size, even when it's the cops, who
need to be evidence-based for staffing and overtime purposes. Unlike many of
the US organizers who often estimate the crowd size of their crowds to be the
largest in US history. In recent decades there was only one "largest in US
history" and that was the 2017 Women's March.

Today, there's a sequence of demonstrations in Berlin, Buenos Aires, Los
Angeles, and many other countries around the world. This movement is ongoing in
the US. "50 Protests in 50 States" is being promoted on social-media for
tomorrow, Feb 5,
https://www.snopes.com/news/2025/02/04/anti-trump-state-capitol-protests-february-5/,
which proves we learned nothing from the "Twitter Revolution" in Egypt or BLM
in the US.

The issues differ, but the US, Argentine and German protestors share a common
visceral reaction to the emergence of global authoritarians - the AfD to Musk,
a narcissistic monster who haunts US workers. To me, the US "50 Protests"
"movement" on Feb 5 reflects the US left's irrelevance compared to Germany and
Argentina. The social-media campaign is a movement without (apparent) leaders,
which might be filled by people chosen almost at random or even by the
movements well-funded enemies (the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation
reported raising approximately $90 million in 2020 and related causes over
$10B) The social-media inspired protests for tomorrow, Feb 5, are pretty vague
with a line about the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution on one poster. Over
50 years ago, Steve Chase, a seasoned US SWP activist, might have described
this as "pissing all over the parking lot without making a puddle."

Unlike Feb 5, the LA protests are anchored in the real world and behind the
"Day Without Immigrants" movement. I'd like to learn more about this movement
and protests. Some headlines in the for-profit media sound like slurs:
"Marchers protesting planned deportations block major freeway in Los Angeles"
https://apnews.com/article/immigration-ice-protests-los-angeles-california-dallas-ecf1afef642ffff40117f88641c8605f.
I'd like to understand whether this was sanctioned by the organizers of the
movement - or by some facebook group or social-media algorithm. Either way,
it's a tactic that is anti-worker in its effects, IMHO, if not its intentions.
I hope we will be much more successful than the largest movement in US history,
the Women's March of 2017+, which inspires us but we have not yet successfully
achieved any of its goals [1].

[1] Key Reasons for the March:
1. Women’s Rights & Gender Equality – Protesters marched in defense of
reproductive rights, equal pay, and protections against gender-based violence.
2. Opposition to Donald Trump’s Policies & Rhetoric – Many demonstrators
opposed Trump’s comments about women and his administration’s stance on issues
like abortion, healthcare, and civil rights.
3. Reproductive Rights & Planned Parenthood – The march supported access to
abortion and birth control and opposed any rollbacks on reproductive rights.
4. Immigrant & LGBTQ+ Rights – Many participants called for protections for
marginalized communities, including immigrants, LGBTQ+ people, and people of
color.
5. Racial & Social Justice – The march was a broad coalition supporting
movements like Black Lives Matter, Indigenous rights, and criminal justice
reform.
6. Climate Change & Science-Based Policy – Many demonstrators advocated for
environmental protection and climate change action.

Size and Impact:
• Estimates suggest between 3 to 5 million people participated worldwide, with
500,000+ in Washington, D.C. alone.
