Hawkins does summarize nicely the vote shifts by race in the last couple of
presidential elections.

But he concludes, "There is a huge political vacuum on the progressive left to
be filled, one way or another." Whether Hawkins counts anyone besides himself
on the progressive left, he clearly means turning around the Elon Musk
autocracy by election.

His article does not mention the midterm election of 2026 nor the presidential
election of 2028. That is wise, because it is in doubt whether these elections
will happen.

The third-party illusion never had much air. True, it did function occasionally
as a serious spoiler threat for one of the two real candidates (Henry Wallace
in 1948, George Wallace in 1968, Ross Perot in 1992). Now the capitalists are
shredding their republic, but Hawkins prattles on. The only interest in his
significance is whether he holds many people back from the only way out,
revolution to overthrow capitalism and take the socialist-communist road.
