Some trajectories leave behind lasting working-class gains like the US CIO in the US but others don't. During the 20s and 30s, US class-struggle politics were led largely by the CPUSA and some smaller left groups like the Trotskyists in Minnesota. The Communists and Trotskyists also fielded candidates for office but only the CPUSA managed to win a few. The Socialist Party of America had electoral wins without class-struggle leadership. After more than forty years of socialist office-holding, what remained were socialist labor bureaucrats who would go on to passionately support US wars.
