*Russia: 200^th Anniversary of the Decembrist Uprising*

These December days mark the 200^th anniversary of the Senate Square
uprising. Had it succeeded, Russian history could have taken a
completely different path. This path would have meant the destruction of
medieval feudal institutions and economic forms and a more rapid
development of capitalism that could have prepared the productive
capacity for the construction of a socialist society in the 20^th
century. But history took a different course.
