The most remarkable thing about John Reimann's reply is his criticism of an article for not mentioning COSATU, formed in 1985. Chris Hani and a majority of the members of both the ANC and the SACP belonged to the banned and mostly exiled SACTU -- COSATU'S parent, formed 30 years earlier, in 1955. Hani volunteered his labour with SACTU, and was heavily involved with the forerunner of COSATU from a very early age.
While on staff with the Manitoba Coalition of Organizations Against Apartheid (MCOAA - the clearing-house for the anti-apartheid movement in western Canada), I founded and edited AMANDLA!, a quarterly publication, in 1991. Our Feb.-May 1993 issue had the article 'In Memoriam: Chris Hani', penned by Ahmed Randeree, an MD and ANC member residing in Winnipeg at the time, who also lived in exile in Lusaka, right next door to Hani. In January '93, Randeree and Hani spent an afternoon together at the SACP offices in Johannesburg, just a few months before his assassination in April of that year. A few old friends meeting together again, they also discussed issues of security at that meeting.
